VISIBLE STUDIO | Munson Museum Master Copy Class

Intermediate | Ages 18+

This class celebrates intensive technical study, problem solving, and dialogue with artists and artworks of the past. It builds on a long-standing tradition of working from close observation of a masterpiece in a museum’s permanent collection. Through this tradition of close observation of a masterpiece, artists receive personalized instruction in oils and the unique opportunity to utilize artworks from the Munson Museum of Art collection. Some previous knowledge of oils is required and beneficial for the class. 

The first two classes take place in the School of Art Studio Building before moving to the museum galleries. All paintings are 19th century masterworks from the Munson collection. A materials list is provided.

+ CLASS NOTE: Students can review the draft Copiest Guidelines and materials list here. Not all works on display will be available for copy. Students must bring in and out all materials and set up their own easels. Easels are available to check out. Personal easels may be used upon Instructor inspection.

Meet your instructor, Yulia!

YULIA LEVKOVICH is an award-winning representational painter. She trained at the Academy of Realist Art, received her BFA from OCAD University, Toronto, and her MFA from the New York Academy of Art, Manhattan. Yulia has taught at several institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
