Set in contemporary Tunis, Promised Sky follows Marie, an Ivorian pastor and former journalist who has built a fragile life for herself while caring for two young women also navigating the uncertainties of migration. When they take in a young orphaned girl, the household becomes a refuge where questions of identity, belonging, and resilience take center stage. Director Erige Sehiri, whose acclaimed Under the Fig Trees earned international recognition, brings warmth and authenticity to this moving portrait of women supporting one another across cultural and national boundaries. Premiering in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, the film was praised for its compassionate storytelling, with Screen Daily calling it “a deeply humane and beautifully observed drama that finds hope amid uncertainty.”
