Film: Peter Hujar’s Day

Directed by Ira Sachs, 2025, USA, Not Rated, 76 minutes

recounts a single ordinary day in 1974 to his friend and writer Linda Rosenkrantz (Rebecca Hall). Captured almost entirely through a conversation in Rosenkrantz’s New York apartment, the film becomes a meditation on art, friendship, and the unseen rhythms of creative life. Peter Hujar’s Day premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to lead the nominations at the 41st Film Independent Spirit Awards, including Best Feature, Best Director, and acting nods for Whishaw and Hall. RogerEbert.com praised it as “a surprisingly beautiful and subtle tribute to the balancing act it takes to be a working artist,” highlighting Sachs’s deft restraint and the pair’s quietly luminous performances.
