François Ozon’s French drama When Fall Is Coming (Quand vient l’automne) takes place in rural Burgundy and centers on Michelle (Hélène Vincent), a retired woman whose peaceful summer plans are disrupted when she accidentally serves poisonous mushrooms to her grandson’s mother, leading to the visit being canceled. Michelle navigates guilt and loneliness while reconnecting with her friend Marie‑Claude (Josiane Balasko), whose adult son recently returned from prison. Featuring Ludivine Sagnier and Garlan Erlos as family members, the film is a thoughtful exploration of aging, quiet community life, and the intricate bonds of friendship and family unfolding in a small village.
