Programming includes presenting a public lecture, teaching community arts education classes, holding a public open studio event, and designing and implementing accessible community projects with various departments on campus. Artists receive financial support, housing, meals, studio, and an exhibition in the Museum of Art.
A successful AIR applicant works in PAINTING and/or DRAWING within the traditional and/or expanded field. A mastery of 2D foundation principles is desired.
Residency is nine months, August 14, 2023 through May 14, 2024.
Call for artists rotates through disciplines each academic year.
One artist is in residence for the 2023/24 academic year.
Artists receive two stipend payments of $1,250, one in September and one in January for a total of $2,500.
Residency includes paid fall and spring semester non-credit teaching opportunities in the Community Arts Education program; and paid PrattMWP College of Art and Design teaching opportunities** (Courses may include the following areas: 2D Foundations, Drawing, Painting, or Illustration.)
Residency includes a fall artist talk, winter open studio, spring Museum of Art solo exhibition, and promotion for these events.
Artist has access to a private studio with 24/7 access.
Artist is provided with a furnished private apartment in the heart of the Munson-Williams campus.
Residency includes a dining hall meal plan. (19 meals per week while college program is in session)

The residency suits self-directed, motivated, and education- oriented artists that have an energetic willingness to make artwork and participate in campus and community life with genuine interest in gaining educational experience.
Develop own artwork and studio practice.
Work with the Community Arts Education and Residency Director prior to arriving to develop non-credit community drawing or painting classes to teach each semester for adults or teens.
Work with the Museum Education Department to imagine, design, and plan art projects for three to four community Art Alive Family Days or similar programming.
Work with PrattMWP College Faculty and undergraduate student body with the potential to teach a credit course**
Present a lecture of current work, open studio, and solo exhibition of new work during residency.
Artists are responsible for bringing all specialty equipment, tools, and supplies used in their daily studio practice (including personal computers) to the residency. If an applicant has a special interest in facilities outside of the specific discipline, please indicate in the application form.
The Artist-in-Residence should model the values and culture of the organization to colleagues and the public by being welcoming, inclusive, and respectful and will value collaboration across the organization.
Artist is responsible for transportation to and during residency and any additional costs of living.
**PrattMWP credit course teaching opportunities are contingent on college enrollment, AIR experience, and are assigned at the discretion of the Chair and Dean.
