John Loy

I am an artist primarily interested in the formal elements of painting—the interaction of lines, shapes, patterns, and colors. My ideas are frequently derived from the technique of collage, which I use as a point of departure. I am fascinated by the manipulation and juxtaposition of fragmented shapes and images. I use these fragments for their visual quality, not their symbolism.

Technically speaking, I am a perfectionist and a precisionist. Although the finished work may appear predetermined, the work in progress usually goes through many changes. However, I do not want the working process to be evident, only the final result.
