Intro to Jewelry Making | Evenings

with Luke Towne | Beginners | Adults and 15 +

In this summer course, students learn the fundamentals of jewelry making, including techniques such as sawing, piercing, texturing, riveting, soldering, and bezel-setting cabochon stones. It is designed for first-time and curious students who want to explore the world of jewelry making and create their own unique pieces. Each session consists of a combination of demonstrations, hands-on practice, and individualized feedback from the instructor. In addition to technical skills, students will also begin to discuss design principles and how to translate their ideas into wearable art.

This course is suitable for both adults and teens 15 and older who are interested in exploring the art of jewelry making. No previous experience is necessary.

Luke Towne

LUKE TOWNE is an artist, jeweler, and current Pratt Munson Jewelry Studio Technician. He earned a BFA in jewelry and metalsmithing from the Rhode Island School of Design. An early passion for chain-making planted the seed for his interest in jewelry. While grounded in methods from metalsmithing and stone carving disciplines, Luke reflects upon narratives emerging from and embedded within the surrounding landscape. Through an alchemical approach, he explores how materials and objects imbue formal, poetic, or even spiritual significance, as well as, the function of jewelry in strengthening the link between matter and meaning. ltowne@prattmunson.edu  |  luketowne.com
