Community Arts classes for all ages begin Sept. 18 at Munson

Sept. 8, 2023. UTICA — The next season of Community Arts classes, with offerings for all ages and all abilities, begin Sept. 18 at Munson in downtown Utica.

For more than 60 years, the mission of Munson Community Arts has been to enhance artistic appreciation, understanding and skill in the local community.

A variety of classes will be on offer in disciplines like painting, fashion and sewing, and ceramics. Classes are taught by experienced, professional artists using state-of-the-art equipment in the same contemporary facilities used by the Pratt Munson College of Art and Design.

Courses range in ability from beginner to advanced, with offerings for children, adults and teens.

“I like to say there are as many reasons for someone to take a Community Arts class as there are students in the classroom,” said Munson Community Arts Education and Residency Director Audrey Taylor.

Classes vary from one-day workshops to 12-week sessions that run through December. There are scholarships available for students of all ages based on financial need.

Some new offerings this fall include Relief Prints: Intro to Linocut, Painting for Beginners, and Portraits in Pencil. While many classes in the fall session start in September, some begin in October or November.
